you & I

here we stand, only feet apart,
across a sea of faces,
two strangers on a train,
you look at me
and I at you,
and your stare consumes me
like I’m made for your delight
and you for mine.
Why don’t you look away ?
and yet I pray you don’t,
and you don’t,
and your gaze holds mine
and both are unashamed,
in this public private place
as you eat me up, again, again.
Too soon you’re gone,
like yesterday,
until tomorrow,
I’ll hold my breath
and live this moment
complete.
